이 충격적인 공습의 배경에는 남아메리카 대륙에서 패권을 확대하고, 세계 최대 원유 매장국인 베네수엘라의 석유 산업을 다시 장악하려는 미국의 야욕이 깔려있다. 표면적으로는 마약 소탕을 내세우고 있지만, 그 실체는 에너지 패권을 유지하기 위한 제국적 침략이다.

Deeply concerned by the reports emerging from Venezuela, the European Green Party co-chairs Vula Tsetsi and Ciarán Cuffe stated that the US military intervention in Venezuela violates International Law:
“Any detention of political actors, use of force, or restriction of fundamental freedoms must always fully respect international law, human rights, and the authority of the United Nations.”
“The Venezuelan people have suffered immensely from authoritarian practices, political repression, and the erosion of democratic institutions. At the same time, we strongly condemn external military intervention or coercive actions, including those by the United States, that further destabilise the country and the region without a UN mandate and against the international law.
“The only sustainable way forward is a peaceful, democratic transition, based on free and fair elections, respect for human rights, and inclusive dialogue led by Venezuelans themselves, and with the support of the international community. The European Union must remain consistent and principled: defending democracy, human rights, and international law, without double standards, and ensuring that all actions respect the authority of the United Nations”, concluded Ciarán Cuffe and Vula Tsetsi.

Les Écologistes condamnent fermement l'attaque militaire menée par les États-Unis sur le territoire vénézuélien, qui a abouti à l’enlèvement du président Nicolas Maduro et de son épouse.
Présentée sans la moindre preuve par Washington comme une opération conjointe contre une “conspiration” anti-étasunienne et contre le narcotrafic, cette intervention, qui a combiné frappes aériennes et opération terrestre, constitue une agression manifeste contre le Venezuela.
Toute intervention militaire à l’intérieur d’un État sans mandat international constitue une grave violation du droit international et du principe de souveraineté des Etats. En l’absence d’autorisation du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, cette opération est illégale. Elle soulève en outre de graves interrogations quant à ses objectifs réels.
Cette escalade intervient dans un contexte politique vénézuélien profondément dégradé. Le pays est gouverné depuis plusieurs années par des autorités dont les pratiques se traduisent par une concentration du pouvoir, la répression de l’opposition politique et de graves atteintes aux droits humains. Ces dérives autoritaires doivent être clairement nommées et combattues. Le travail de la Cour pénale internationale, qui a ouvert en 2018 une enquête pour crimes contre l’humanité présumés lors de la répression des manifestations de 2017 au Venezuela, doit être soutenu.
Pour autant, la condamnation de ces dérives internes ne saurait en aucun cas justifier des ingérences extérieures. La défense de la souveraineté des peuples implique de s’opposer à toute intervention militaire unilatérale, sans complaisance à l’égard des régimes autoritaires. Le respect du droit international ne peut être ni sélectif ni instrumentalisé.
Face à cette situation, les Écologistes appellent à une désescalade immédiate, et à la saisine urgente du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies. Nous appelons la France, en coordination avec ses partenaires européens, à condamner sans ambiguïté cette agression et à œuvrer pour une transition pacifique et démocratique au Venezuela, dans le respect de la souveraineté et de la volonté du peuple vénézuélien.

The UK government has been urged to take a stand against Donald Trump’s air strikes against Venezuela, which the Scottish Greens have branded “a dangerous and cynical act of imperialism and aggression.”
The party’s external affairs spokesperson, Patrick Harvie said:
“This is a dangerous and cynical act of imperialism and aggression from a Trump administration that has a proven contempt for human rights and international law.
“Donald Trump promised to end US wars, but since he was elected, he has cosied up to Vladimir Putin, armed Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and bombed Venezuela.
“The unprovoked and deadly invasion of another country while its citizens sleep should appal all of us. The fact that Venezuela has some of the world’s largest oil reserves makes this feel very familiar.
“If reports that the US has abducted Maduro are true, then it is a coup in all but name.
“We stand in full solidarity with the people of Venezuela. This cannot be allowed to stand.
"The response from other governments will be key. Will they support the sovereignty of Venezuela and condemn these reckless and immoral attacks?”

The Green Party condemns the unilateral and illegal action of the U.S. in attacking Venezuela.
The most pressing humanitarian issue is the welfare of people in Venezuela and to protect against violence and unrest in the country in response to the actions of the U.S.
We call for the EU and UN to use all diplomatic channels to negotiate a peaceful resolution and protect people, resources and democracy. Multilateral agencies and processes must be respected. While the US has chosen to ignore them, it is vital that the rest of the world uphold and strengthen them.
It is deeply worrying that the US may be igniting another oil war - seeking to exert control over Venezuela’s oil reserve. Fossil fuel wars have wreaked havoc in the world in the first quarter of this century - they must not be allowed to continue.

The Green Party condemns the kidnapping of the Venezuelan President and his wife and demands their immediate release. We strongly oppose this illegal act of war which violates both the US Constitution and international law. Congress needs to immediately commence impeachment proceedings against Trump.
The Party also harshly reacted to the assertion by Trump that the United States will now be running Venezuela for the near term and if he faces any local opposition, he will send in a second wave of American military forces to subdue the population.

The Party urges the Senate to vote on the resolution scheduled for next week to halt military intervention. The bipartisan resolution only needs a majority to pass.
According to the CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS, force is only permissible in response to an armed attack, or possibly to rescue a population facing an imminent threat of extermination.
“Trump is primarily interested in seizing control of Venezuela's oil and other natural resources. His pretext of seeking to protect Americans from drugs is ludicrous, especially in light of his pardon just a month ago of ex-Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was serving a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking. Congress must immediately convene to finally reign in this President who is ripping to shreds the Constitution and American democracy,” said Craig Cayetano, Co-Chair for the Green Party of the US.
“The White House National Security Strategy document released in November 2025,outlined what Trump considers a priority - focus on the Western Hemisphere - which clearly looks like taking control of Venezuelan oil while at the same time attempting to thwart a socialist government,” said Cassandra Lems, Co-chair for the Green Party of the US.
The Green Party is committed to join with other groups committed to peace, justice and the rule of law to organize nationwide protests to free Maduro and his family and to stop this illegal war.

The Green Party of Canada, in solidarity with the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas (FPVA), strongly condemns all military actions, including the kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro, carried out by the United States government on Venezuelan territory on January 3, 2026.
“In an increasingly destabilized world, our North Star must remain respect for international law,” said Green Party of Canada Leader Elizabeth May.
“We can’t stand by while one man’s insatiable and violent thirst for oil makes an already perilous time in the world even less safe and even more unstable,” said Green Party of Canada Deputy Leader Mike Morrice.

We denounce this action as a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the fundamental principles of national sovereignty. The unilateral use of military force contravenes international law and undermines the global rules-based order.

Australia has a stake in an international order underpinned by international law, peace and non-aggression and this latest US attack is a fundamental breach of these principles.
Trump’s assault on Venezuela provides comfort to Vladimir Putin for his aggression in Ukraine, cover for a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan and sets an extremely dangerous precedent.
Greens Foreign Affairs spokesperson Senator David Shoebridge said:
“Lawlessness without consequences helps dictators, tyrants and aggressors. It places the world on a very dangerous footing."
“This US war is not about self-defence, like so many before it, this is a war about resources, oil and dominance.
“Donald Trump is taking dystopian steps to divide the world into zones where major powers dominate, where international law and decency take a back seat to power and greed. This can only happen when middle powers like Australia ignore, or worse support, the US when they flaunt international law.”

“Any detention of political actors, use of force, or restriction of fundamental freedoms must always fully respect international law, human rights, and the authority of the United Nations.”
“The Venezuelan people have suffered immensely from authoritarian practices, political repression, and the erosion of democratic institutions. At the same time, we strongly condemn external military intervention or coercive actions, including those by the United States, that further destabilise the country and the region without a UN mandate and against the international law.
“The only sustainable way forward is a peaceful, democratic transition, based on free and fair elections, respect for human rights, and inclusive dialogue led by Venezuelans themselves, and with the support of the international community. Les Écologistes condamnent fermement l'attaque militaire menée par les États-Unis sur le territoire vénézuélien, qui a abouti à l’enlèvement du président Nicolas Maduro et de son épouse.
Présentée sans la moindre preuve par Washington comme une opération conjointe contre une “conspiration” anti-étasunienne et contre le narcotrafic, cette intervention, qui a combiné frappes aériennes et opération terrestre, constitue une agression manifeste contre le Venezuela.
Toute intervention militaire à l’intérieur d’un État sans mandat international constitue une grave violation du droit international et du principe de souveraineté des Etats. En l’absence d’autorisation du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, cette opération est illégale. Elle soulève en outre de graves interrogations quant à ses objectifs réels.
Cette escalade intervient dans un contexte politique vénézuélien profondément dégradé. Le pays est gouverné depuis plusieurs années par des autorités dont les pratiques se traduisent par une concentration du pouvoir, la répression de l’opposition politique et de graves atteintes aux droits humains. Ces dérives autoritaires doivent être clairement nommées et combattues. Le travail de la Cour pénale internationale, qui a ouvert en 2018 une enquête pour crimes contre l’humanité présumés lors de la répression des manifestations de 2017 au Venezuela, doit être soutenu.
Pour autant, la condamnation de ces dérives internes ne saurait en aucun cas justifier des ingérences extérieures. La défense de la souveraineté des peuples implique de s’opposer à toute intervention militaire unilatérale, sans complaisance à l’égard des régimes autoritaires. Le respect du droit international ne peut être ni sélectif ni instrumentalisé.
Face à cette situation, les Écologistes appellent à une désescalade immédiate, et à la saisine urgente du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies. Nous appelons la France, en coordination avec ses partenaires européens, à condamner sans ambiguïté cette agression et à œuvrer pour une transition pacifique et démocratique au Venezuela, dans le respect de la souveraineté et de la volonté du peuple vénézuélien.

The UK government has been urged to take a stand against Donald Trump’s air strikes against Venezuela, which the Scottish Greens have branded “a dangerous and cynical act of imperialism and aggression.”
The party’s external affairs spokesperson, Patrick Harvie said:
“This is a dangerous and cynical act of imperialism and aggression from a Trump administration that has a proven contempt for human rights and international law.
“Donald Trump promised to end US wars, but since he was elected, he has cosied up to Vladimir Putin, armed Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and bombed Venezuela.
“The unprovoked and deadly invasion of another country while its citizens sleep should appal all of us. The fact that Venezuela has some of the world’s largest oil reserves makes this feel very familiar.
“If reports that the US has abducted Maduro are true, then it is a coup in all but name.
“We stand in full solidarity with the people of Venezuela. This cannot be allowed to stand.

The Green Party condemns the unilateral and illegal action of the U.S. in attacking Venezuela.
The most pressing humanitarian issue is the welfare of people in Venezuela and to protect against violence and unrest in the country in response to the actions of the U.S.
We call for the EU and UN to use all diplomatic channels to negotiate a peaceful resolution and protect people, resources and democracy. Multilateral agencies and processes must be respected. While the US has chosen to ignore them, it is vital that the rest of the world uphold and strengthen them.
It is deeply worrying that the US may be igniting another oil war - seeking to exert control over Venezuela’s oil reserve. Fossil fuel wars have wreaked havoc in the world in the first quarter of this century - they must not be allowed to continue.

The Party urges the Senate to vote on the resolution scheduled for next week to halt military intervention. The bipartisan resolution only needs a majority to pass.
According to the CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS, force is only permissible in response to an armed attack, or possibly to rescue a population facing an imminent threat of extermination.
“Trump is primarily interested in seizing control of Venezuela's oil and other natural resources. His pretext of seeking to protect Americans from drugs is ludicrous, especially in light of his pardon just a month ago of ex-Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was serving a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking. Congress must immediately convene to finally reign in this President who is ripping to shreds the Constitution and American democracy,” said Craig Cayetano, Co-Chair for the Green Party of the US.
“The White House National Security Strategy document released in November 2025,outlined what Trump considers a priority - focus on the Western Hemisphere - which clearly looks like taking control of Venezuelan oil while at the same time attempting to thwart a socialist government,” said Cassandra Lems, Co-chair for the Green Party of the US.
The Green Party is committed to join with other groups committed to peace, justice and the rule of law to organize nationwide protests to free Maduro and his family and to stop this illegal war.

Green Party of Canada Condemns U.S. Actions in Venezuela as Violation of International Law

The Green Party of Canada, in solidarity with the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas (FPVA), strongly condemns all military actions, including the kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro, carried out by the United States government on Venezuelan territory on January 3, 2026.
“In an increasingly destabilized world, our North Star must remain respect for international law,” said Green Party of Canada Leader Elizabeth May.
“We can’t stand by while one man’s insatiable and violent thirst for oil makes an already perilous time in the world even less safe and even more unstable,” said Green Party of Canada Deputy Leader Mike Morrice.
- Violation of International Law
We denounce this action as a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the fundamental principles of national sovereignty. The unilateral use of military force contravenes international law and undermines the global rules-based order.
- Threat to Continental Stability
An attack against Venezuela constitutes an act of aggression that threatens the peace, security, and territorial integrity of the region as a whole.
- Defence of Life Over Politics
The FPVA emphasizes that, while Green Party members in Venezuela oppose the current government, they equally reject armed intervention. The protection of life and territory must transcend partisan political differences. Violence will never be a pathway to representative democracy or respect for human rights.
- Call to the Global Community
As an integral part of the Global Greens, we call for decisive action from the international community and from human rights organizations worldwide.

Australia must uphold international law and oppose US attacks on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its President and his wife.
The US attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its President and his wife is a gross breach of international law and continues the world on a dangerous path of lawless aggression.
Australia has a stake in an international order underpinned by international law, peace and non-aggression and this latest US attack is a fundamental breach of these principles.
Trump’s assault on Venezuela provides comfort to Vladimir Putin for his aggression in Ukraine, cover for a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan and sets an extremely dangerous precedent.
Greens Foreign Affairs spokesperson Senator David Shoebridge said:
“Lawlessness without consequences helps dictators, tyrants and aggressors. It places the world on a very dangerous footing."
“This US war is not about self-defence, like so many before it, this is a war about resources, oil and dominance.
“Donald Trump is taking dystopian steps to divide the world into zones where major powers dominate, where international law and decency take a back seat to power and greed. This can only happen when middle powers like Australia ignore, or worse support, the US when they flaunt international law.”
“The people of Venezuela deserve the right to live in peace and elect their government, the actions of the US today will put these basic rights further out of reach. We have seen time and time again that the true victims of US regime change operations and wars are always civilians.
“Australia must urgently reassess its relationship with the US, which was previously sold on shared values of democracy and an international rules-based order. That relationship, if it ever truly existed, is now in tatters.
“This is a moment in time to start removing US troops and bases from Australia and to gain military and economic independence from the US, not to double down on AUKUS.
“This illegal and illegitimate attack on Venezuela demonstrates how dangerous it is to have a large US military presence in Australia with thousands of troops under the direct control of any foreign government, let alone Donald Trump.”

This is a display of illegal might that has never had the interests of the Venezuelan people at its core."
She said Luxon's "silence in the face of this blatant US breach of international law goes against NZ maintaining our cherished independent foreign policy and betrays the values of our nation".
"The PM needs to show an understanding of how this action risks the already fragile stability and sustainable pathways to justice for the world and impacted regions. He must condemn this invasion now," Davidson wrote. ●
